Challenges in translating "omics" for personalized treatment of breast cancer
Professor Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale is among the leading geneticists in research on molecular biology of breast cancer. Her group pioneered in collaboration with groups at Stanford expression profiling of breast carcinomas, demonstrating that breast cancer can be divided into distinct subgroups with differences in molecular profiles and in overall and relapse-free survival. Her achievements are seminal for understanding breast cancer evolution, and have had an enormous impact on our view of the complexity of breast cancer. She has authored more than 450 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and invited reviews.
Her current research projects focus on 'Exploring the Systems Biology of Breast Cancer' using high-dimensional data in integrated approaches aiming at the identification of genotypes and gene expression profiles contributing to elevated cancer risk, radiation sensitivity, tumor aggressiveness and therapy resistance.
Professor Børresen-Dale has received several prizes and awards, inter alia the Swiss Bridge Award for outstanding Cancer Research in 2004 and the Møbius Prize for Outstanding Research in 2008. Most recently, she has received the Helmholtz International Fellow Award. In addition to her scientific merits, she is an active member of various international and national boards. Professor Børresen-Dale has served on the Board of Directors of both, the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) and the European Cancer Organization (ECCO), is Past President of the European Association of Cancer Research (EACR), and is Elected Member of The Royal Academy of Science (Norway), The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and the European Academy of Cancer Sciences. Since 2010 and 2013 respectively, she has been an exceptionally dedicated member of the Scientific Advisory Boards of the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research (DKTK).
It is our pleasure to cordially invite you to the Mildred Scheel Lecture given by Prof. Dr. Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale (The K.G. Jebsen Center for Breast Cancer Research, Institute for Cancer Research, Oslo University Hospital The Norwegian Radiumhospital, and University of Oslo) at Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften. With the unique Mildred Scheel Lectureship series we pay tribute to the outstanding commitment of Dr. Mildred Scheel in her fight against cancer, for which she is to this date nationally and internationally highly regarded.
The Mildred Scheel Lecture series is a joint initiative of the German Cancer Research Center, the German Cancer Aid, and the DKFZ Executive Women's Initiative. Our goal is to honor outstanding cancer researchers and women who have contributed in an extraordinary way to advance cancer research. At the same time, the Lectureship should particularly encourage young women for a scientific career.
We look very much forward to welcoming you to the lecture.
