Dear Colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to the next CCCC-/DKTK Workshop, which will focus on Methylom- and CyTOF-based Analysis.

Date:    9th November 2015
Time:   14:00 – 17:00
Venue: Charité Comprehensive Cancer Center | Konferenzraum, level 3 | Invalidenstr. 80 / intern: Virchowweg 23

The Workshop will present two of the latest technological hot topics, 450K array-based methylation analysis and CyTOF-based cellular analysis and give examples of their application in translational  research:
Mass Cytometry (Cytometry by Time-of-Flight, CyTOF) is a new technology that combines flow cytometry as a tool for analysing millions of single cells in high throughput with the wide range of available tags used in mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). To date more than 40 parameters, like surface markers, signal transduction molecules and transcription factors, can be measured simultanously within a single cell. This allows for the analysis of a great diversity of cell subsets and functions at the same time and can be used e.g. to find abnormal cell subsets or to analyse broader signalling networks rather then just single pathways. Prof. Leo Hansmann, Charité Universitätsmedizin, will talk about "A mass cytometry view on multiple myeloma" and Dr. rer. nat. Dr. Désirée Kunkel, Head of BCRT Flow Cytometry Lab, will give an overview on "CyTOF2 at the BCRT Flow Cytometry Lab".

Analysis of DNA methylation, likely acting as a 'fingerprint' of cellular origin, is one promising molecular technology for tumor classification, which can complement standard pathology testing have the potential to greatly enhance diagnostic precision. Dr. med. David Capper from the Ruprecht-Karls Universität Heidelberg, Neuropathology, will give a talk on "DNA methylation profiling for the classification of brain tumors". A reference bank of over 2500 brain tumors comprising over 80 tumor classes has been established and is currently being tested for diagnostic purposes. Data on the clinical implementation and on the scientific potential of this system will be presented.

We look very much forward to an interesting exchange of thoughts and experience as well as to exciting discussions.
