Veranstaltung ausschließlich für Fachpublikum

Dear collegues,
We are delighted to announce the upcoming DKTK Lecture:
„Tobacco exposure and somatic mutations in normal human bronchial epithelia“
Speaker: Dr. Kenichi Yoshida
Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, UK
Host: PD Frederik Damm / Prof. Lars Bullinger
Medical Department, Division of Hematology, Oncology and Tumor Immunology (CVK)
Date : Nov 8th, 2019
Time: 1:00 pm
Venue: Charité Campus Virchow-Klinikum, Mittelallee 10, Kursraum 5
Dr Yoshida worked many years as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Tumor Biology, Kyoto University, Japan. Under the guidance of Professor Seishi Ogawa, he became an expert in the field of cancer genomics. Using various large scale sequencing methods he authored seminal work in the field of hematologic malignancies. As one example, he discovered somatic mutations affecting the spliceosome such as SF3B1, SRSF2 or U2AF1 which are nowadays promising targets for tailored treatment approaches (Yoshida et al, Nature 2011). Many other important contributions followed thereafter (e.g. Nature Genetics 2013, Nature Genetics 2014 and Nature Genetics 2017). Since two years, he spends a research fellowship in the lab of Professor Peter Campbell at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, UK. Dr Yoshida will present his most recent work, which investigates the role of somatic mutations during the process of ageing, tobaco use and cancer development (Nature, in revision).
All are most warmly invited to attend. Please feel free to circulate this email among colleagues who might be interested.
We look very much forward to an interesting exchange of thoughts and experience as well as to exciting discussions.
With kind regards,
DKTK Coordination Office
